Lost in the Landscape

Lough Gur 20 x 20 inches square

This is the piece that I created for the IPS Irish Patchwork Society National Exhibition 2021 titled Language Landscape Migration which opened in the Pearce Cottage museum in Rosmuc County Galway on the 14th of August 2012 and here's the poster with details of the exhibit:

I prepared a Powerpoint slideshow of the exhibit so that you can see all the quilts. Click on link below to watch

Lough Our is one of my favourite places to walk and this image was taken from a walk there with my daughter early in the summer, 'twas very hot, the sound of the bees and insets in the bushes was really loud, once you got away from the visitor centre, dragonflies of all shapes and sizes darted around and I do recall chasing a beautifully coloured butterfly for awhile until it relented and let me photograph it!

The lake had a large flotilla of swans jostling for territory and a few wary kayakers weaving in-between them. The water was so clear, lots of fishies, and I so wanted to have a dip but in over thirty years visiting this place, I've never seen anyone Swimming in it.

My little art quilt was made by digitally altering a photograph and getting it printed on fabric. I then made the usual quilt sandwich of backing fabric, wading and the quilt top, spray basted it and quilted along the mosaic effect lines.
